We excluded companies whose real business is RV/mobile solar, wholesale panel distribution, energy consulting, or skylights — not rooftop solar installation — even when their name or listing suggested otherwise. How to Tell a Good Kelowna Installer From a Bad One

Review volume is a strong starting signal — it’s why we lead with it — but it isn’t the whole picture on a purchase this size. Solar is a 25+ year decision, and the criteria below apply to any installer you’re considering, whether or not they appear in our ranking above. No installer pays for placement on this page, so we have no reason to soften this list.

Local install volume, not just years in business

“Years incorporated” and “years actually installing in the Okanagan” are different numbers. Ask directly: how many completed installations in Kelowna, West Kelowna, or Summerland specifically — not just quotes? A company with hundreds of local installs has seen far more of the region’s roof types — newer Kelowna and West Kelowna subdivisions, Summerland’s older orchard-country homes, steep lakeside lots — than one with a handful.

Three warranties, not one

A BC residential system carries three separate warranties, and only one of them depends on the installer you hired still being in business: the panel manufacturer’s product and performance warranty (25 years, tied to the panel maker), the inverter warranty (typically 10-12 years, tied to the inverter maker), and the installer’s workmanship warranty (varies widely, and is worthless if the company folds). Ask each installer what happens to your workmanship warranty if they close up shop.

In-house electricians vs. subcontracted crews

Some Kelowna-area installers run their own licensed electricians; others subcontract the electrical connection to a third party. Neither approach is automatically wrong, but you want to know which one you’re getting, since it affects accountability if something goes wrong after the panels are up.

Okanagan sun hours cut both ways

Kelowna gets more annual sunshine than almost anywhere else in BC, which means strong production numbers — but it also means an undersized or poorly angled system shows up as a bigger shortfall in your actual savings than it would in a cloudier market. Ask for a production estimate based on your specific roof pitch and orientation, not a generic per-panel number.

Green flags

✓Real photos of recent Central Okanagan installations, not stock imagery
✓A named FortisBC (or BC Hydro, for the small pockets of Kelowna they serve) interconnection process they can walk you through before you sign
✓In-house electricians rather than a rotating cast of subcontractors
✓A written 25-year production guarantee separate from the panel manufacturer’s warranty
✓Willing to give you the site address of a local install you can drive by

Red flags

✗Pressure to sign the same day, or a quote that expires in 24 hours
✗No local Kelowna or Okanagan installs they can point to, only out-of-region examples
✗Vague answers about who does the actual electrical work — their crew, or a subcontractor
✗A price that’s dramatically below every other quote you’ve collected
✗No online reviews at all, positive or negative, after claiming years in business

Where This List Comes From

Our ranking is based purely on verified Google review volume, cross-checked company by company against each business’s actual Google Business Profile — not self-reported numbers, and not a paid placement of any kind. We pulled every solar company tagged to Kelowna, West Kelowna, and Summerland in our database, then manually removed listings that weren’t a genuine fit: an RV/mobile solar specialist, a wholesale panel distributor, an energy-consulting firm, and a skylights-and-shading company that came up under a “solar” name but doesn’t install solar-electric systems. Duplicate profiles for the same company were merged before ranking. What’s left is 13 companies that actually install residential or commercial solar in the Central Okanagan.

Kelowna Solar Pricing: What to Expect Before You Get Quotes

Ranking installers is only half the decision — the other half is knowing what a fair quote looks like. Our full Kelowna solar guide covers current system pricing, FortisBC net metering rules (most of Kelowna and the Okanagan is FortisBC territory, not BC Hydro), and payback math specific to the region’s sun hours. For a quick personalized estimate, run your address through our solar calculator, or see how Kelowna pricing compares nationally in our Canada-wide solar cost breakdown.

Pro tip: get quotes from at least three companies on this list — one high-volume installer from the top five, one mid-size company, and one with a perfect rating — before you sign anything. Price alone is a poor selection criterion for a 25-year purchase.

Kelowna Solar FAQ

Based on verified Google review volume, Greenfoot Energy is the most-reviewed solar installer in our Kelowna dataset, with 135 reviews at 4.8★. “Best” depends on your specific roof, budget, and timeline, though — see our full evaluation guide above before choosing.

We’ve identified 13 active solar installers serving Kelowna, West Kelowna, and Summerland with verified Google reviews. This excludes RV/mobile solar specialists, wholesale distributors, energy consultants, and non-solar businesses that came up under solar-adjacent names.

Check their Google Business Profile review count and rating directly (not just what’s shown on their own website), ask how many installations they’ve completed specifically in the Central Okanagan, and confirm whether their electrical work is done in-house or subcontracted. See our full evaluation guide above for the complete checklist.

Many do. Companies based in Kelowna and West Kelowna commonly also serve Lake Country, Peachland, and parts of the wider Okanagan Valley — confirm your specific address with the installer directly.

Pricing depends on system size, roof complexity, and equipment choice. See our Kelowna solar guide for current typical pricing, or run your address through our solar calculator for a personalized estimate.
